Good horse treats can be expensive, sometimes over $20 for a small bag. I researched safe ingredients for horses and found a few recipes online. From those, I made this simple recipe that turned out great! The texture was perfect, the horses loved them, and I had most of the ingredients at home.
These treats are a great way to show your horse some love and make excellent gifts for horse lovers. Plus, they’re budget-friendly.
We also made a few without peppermints and gave them to our goats—they loved them too!
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Grease a mini muffin tin well with corn oil to prevent sticking.
- Mix the oats, flaxseed, cornstarch, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
- Add the molasses and water, mixing well to coat the oats.
- Stir in the grated apple and carrot.
- Fill the muffin cups 3/4 full.
- Bake for about 15 minutes or until done.
- While the muffins are still warm, press a peppermint into the center of each muffin. Let them cool completely.
- Give your horses these homemade treats and see how much they enjoy them!
